History

This Faculty is one of the oldest in the University. Among those who studied and worked here were the Nobel Prize Winner in Physics Academician I. E. Tamm, triple Socialist Labour Heroes I. V. Kurchatov and K. I. Schelkin, Academician I. P. Ioffe, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ya. I. Frenkel.

Students of the Faculty of Physics annually receive the Scholarship of the Supreme Council (Parliament) of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Vemadskiy Scholarship, Scholarship of Simferopol City Council, and scholarships from the Academic Council of the University (Joffe, Kurchatov and Tamm scholarships). Scholarships of the Ukrainian President were awarded to two postgraduates in 2000.

General Information

Education activity and research is carried out at the Faculty by nine Doctors of Sciences/Professors, and 25 Candidates of Sciences/Assistant Professors.
Scholars of the Faculty founded several independent research institutions: the Seismology Section of the NASU Institute of Geophysics, Domain Design Bureau, the Research Technology Institute of Functional Microelectronics, etc.
Some 500 students and 24 postgraduate students study at seven Departments of the Faculty.

Scientific and Educational Relations

The Faculty cooperates with many scientific and educational institutions of Ukraine, Russia, the United States, Germany, Poland and other countries. Six grants of Soros, INTAS, State Fund of Fundamental Research, etc. were awarded to the faculty members in the recent years.
The Faculty hosts international conferences and academic schools.

Education

The Faculty trains specialists in physics, radiophysics and electronics, applied physics. l6 laboratories of the Faculty, the Centre of Computer Technologies, department branches in the NASU Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, field practice facilities in laboratories of the Crimean Section of the Ukrainian State Geological Exploration Institute are an important part of the education efforts.
The Faculty has the Candidate Dissertations Review Board specialised in solid-state physics, optics and theoretical electrotechnology.
