Department was founded in 2008.

The Department provides teaching of foreign languages for specific purposes (teaching academic skills to professionals); English, German, French, and Spanish languages.

At this moment, there are 24 teachers in the department staff, including 4 PhD, 2 post-graduates, 2 Competitors, 5 senior lecturers. Many teachers of the department improve their language skills abroad.

 
 
 
 

The main tasks of the department

   
 

Since the founding of the department its task was to put the teaching of foreign languages at a high level and to realize bifunctionality in the learning process in language use, i.e., both to teach the language as a mean of communication and give attention to the English language as a mean of science perception - because, in conditions of globalization, this problem is of particular importance. This main objective predetermined the feasibility of using credit-module system as a system of criteria for monitoring learning results. In practice of teaching modules have found its specific value. The most important kind of independent work is the preparation and writing the annotations to the specialized texts.

Great importance in the teaching of foreign languages in groups of all specialties has a clear organization of the educational process. The novelty of the tasks requires strengthening methodological work with teachers. Particular attention is paid to the equipment of the department, especially the availability of high-quality audio and video equipment. Methodological problems of the department are determined by final program requirements, which are in the formation of a high level of communicative competence necessary for a qualified informational and creative activity in different areas and situations, business partnerships and research.

Other important tasks of the department are: the revitalization of the teachers to develop new teaching aids, which take into consideration interests and needs of the department. Particular attention is paid to conducting scientific student conferences, diplomas in a foreign language.

 
 

Aims and objectives of teaching foreign languages

   
 

Preparation of modern specialists requires using at least one foreign language to the extent that provides the possibility of practical use in future careers. Learning a foreign language is one of the priorities of the department plan and has a distinct pragmatic orientation. The purpose of foreign language teaching is to provide opportunities for effective communication in the field of professional activity. Therefore, to achieve the goals the concept of foreign language teaching should be adjusted in the direction of increasing the number of classroom teaching hours for junior courses, which will bring students to the required level.

The concept involves training in all types of speech activity in a complex required for:

  • oral communication in the field of professional activity;
  • reading specialized literature and periodicals with the extraction of professionally relevant information;
  • business correspondence and records management with the use of modern means of communication;
  • translation of information on the specialty from foreign languages into Russian and from Russian into a foreign language;
  • write different kinds of written work in a professionally oriented area (summary report, essay) as a result of creative thinking and content-stylistic analysis of authentic materials.
 
 

Principles of teaching foreign languages

   
 

The main principle of language teaching is complex professional oriented learning a foreign language on the basis of credit-modular system as the technology of instruction, on the base of which the study of communication in various areas and situations to deal with professional challenges.

In general, department of foreign languages use the following principles of training:

Methodological work

   
  Methodological work of the department aims to develop the student's personality, knowledge of a foreign language sufficient to understand the information in the humanities.  
 

Teachers of the department are aimed at

   
 
  1. preparation of guidelines and manuals on basic foreign language courses;
  2. developing guidance for the teacher in groups of deep language study;
  3. preparation of training materials for professional-oriented foreign language teaching;
  4. developing guidance for graduate students who pass qualifying examination for the candidate degree of a foreign language;
  5. develop and update teaching the concepts of foreign language teaching in the existing grid hours;
  6. improving scientific qualifications - the preparation of theses related to the topic of scientific research in the department;
  7. preparation and publication of manuals;
  8. selection of authentic material, which allows studying foreign language on different levels;
  9. prepare students for the diplomas on the foreign language;
  10. drafting plans for the Olympiads;
  11. deep study of a foreign language at students' courses. Improving the educational process is carried out by introducing new forms of education while maintaining the proven traditional forms of education.
