The history of the Philology Faculty goes back to October,14, 1918, when
Tavrida
University was established. In November, 1920 the History and philology
faculty was
reformed into the Philosophy-Philology faculty, and in June, 1921 -into
the faculty of the
Social Sciences. In January, 1922, the Pedagogics Department of the
Faculty of the Social
Sciences was reorganized into Pedagogical Institute (the Dean is P.I.Novitzky).
In fact, the
name "institute" didn't correspond to the law-basis of the organizing
Institution of Higher
Education, so it was considered to be the Institute of the Crimean
University and as a part of
the letter should have been called a faculty.
The Oriental Faculty was joined as a part
of the Pedagogics Faculty. Before that, the
Pedagogics Faculty had only the Linguistics and History department
with two sections:
Verbal-Linguistic and History. Having received the right to open a
faculty with the full staff
and means necessary for it, the Crimean University exposed 4 departments
of the
pedagogical department: linguistic, Physics and Technology Sciences
and Oriental Studies.
The faculty was into the building of the Stashevskaya`s Gymnasium.
In winter, of 1925 the Pedagogy Faculty of
the Crimean Faculty was reformed into the
Pedagogical Institute. In 20-30's the famous scientists such as Academician
V.I.Borkovsky,
Academician B.D.Grekov, Academician of the USSR N.K.Gudzy, the member-correspondent
of the USSR E.V.Petukhov, the member- correspondent of the USSR A.N.Markevich,
Professors: A.M.Lukyanenko, A.N.Derevitsky, G.M. Maximovich, A.A.Sokolov
and others
lectured and taught at the faculty.
In the middle of the 30's the Dept of Russian
Language and Literature the Dept of
Tartar Language and Literature were established on the bases of the
History and Philology
Faculty.
During World War II the Faculty as a part
of the Pedagogical Institute was evacuated
to Makhatchkala. The Head of the Dept of Russian language, Associate
Professor
A.I.Germanovich and the Head of the Dept of Russian Literature V.D.Bromstein
carried at
researches during these years.
After returning to Simferopol the instructors
and students of the Literature Faculty
joined the studies and creation of the library at the institute. The
talented linguist, Associate
Professor V.N. Migirin was among young instructors, invited to lecture
there.
The Associate Professor S.A.Sekirinsky had
been the Dean of the History and Philology
Faculty since 1951 to 1955, the Associate Professor V.D.Pavlichenko
had been the Dean
since 1955 to 1963.
The Department of the Ukrainian Language and
Literature was formed at the Faculty
in 1955.

In 1968 the Dept of the Methods of language and literature learning
(the Head of the Dept -
the Associate Professor A.A. Sololovyova) coming out of the structure
of the Dept of the
Russian Language, was opened. The Associate Professor V.N.Kulipanova
had been the Dean
of the History and Philology Faculty since 1963 to 1970.
In 1972 while transforming the Crimean Pedagogical
Institute into Simferopol
University, the History and Philology faculty was divided into History
Faculty and Philology
Faculty. V.M.Roginsky has been the Dean of the faculty since 1970 to
1981. The Dept of the
Ukrainian language and literature was divided into the the Dept of
the Ukrainian language
(the Head of the Dept - Associate Professor E.S.Regushevsky), and the
Dept of the Ukrainian
literature (Associate Professor P.M.Kirichek). Since 1981 Professor
E.S.Regushevsky has
been the Dean of the faculty. The Dept of the Crimean - Tartar language
and literature was
formed (the Head of the Dept - Associate Professor A.S.Akmollaev) in
1990. In the meantime
Professor A.M.Memetov is the Head of the Dept of the Crimean-Tartar
language, and the
Associate Professor D.B.Bekirov is the Head of the Dept of the Crimean-
Tartar literature,
formed in 1992.
